John Linzy ‘Jack’ Whitman

May 25th, 1946 - December 31st, 2023

In memory of John Linzy ‘Jack’ Whitman, who left us peacefully at age 77 on December 31, 2023. He was born on May 25, 1946, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Gladys and Linzy Whitman.

Jack grew up in Firth and attended Shelley High School.  He began work at an early age in farming and trucking before finding his niche in the construction business. His career spanned more than 40 years with companies like HK, Nelsons, and others where he became an expert heavy equipment operator. He took great pride in the countless roads and neighborhoods he helped to build around the region.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys; his father, Linzy; and his sister, Jean. He is survived by his brother, Theron Whitman; his sons: Jeff and John Whitman; and daughter-in-law, Jaime; his grandkids: Jocelyn, Jamie, Wyatt, Peyton, and Grant Whitman; and his great-grandkids: Sloan and Vincent.

A man of deep connections, Jack cherished the bond he shared with his friends and family. He found joy in the simple pleasures, from his passion for his trucks, guns, and Western movies to the camaraderie of the coffee shop gatherings with friends.

Jack Whitman will be remembered for his quick wit, funny stories, ability to find humor in all situations, and the love he shared with those around him. May he rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and cherished memories.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring – details to follow.  Cremation is under the care of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. Online condolences may be sent to www.coltrinmortuary.com.
