Karol Fayle

July 31st, 1934 - January 2nd, 2024

Karol Shiner Fayle, 89, of Las Vegas Nevada formerly of Pocatello passed away peacefully at her home on January 2, 2024.

Karol was born on July 31,1934 in Roosevelt Utah to James Wilford “Wiff” & Georgia Shiner.

When Karol was growing up their family moved around a lot. From Utah to Wyoming and back to Utah before settling 35 miles from Leadore on the Idaho Montana border in a town called Armstead in 1948. Since schools were not close Karol and her brother Chuck boarded with Minnie Proulx who lived in a small house at the edge of Leadore. They would stay all week with her and then go home on weekends.

Karol graduated from Leadore High School in 1952. During her senior year she met Dale Fayle, and they were married that summer.

They purchased a small ranch. While living there they had their first child, a daughter Dale Christine was born in February 1954. Life on the ranch became difficult because the ranch had little water rights. After 2 years they decided to sell and move 8 miles from Leadore to a ranch that Dale’s grandfather Will Vreeland had homesteaded when he was a young man. There they had their second child, a son Kelly. He was born in May of 1956.

To better the family Karol went back to school to receive her provisional teaching certificate. Later graduated with Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Western Montana College in Dillon. She taught 3rd and 4th grades in Leadore for 17 years. When Dale and Kelly went off to college at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Dale and Karol decided to follow them. They sold the ranch and moved to Pocatello in 1976. She worked as a substitute teacher for a year before landing a teaching position at Lewis & Clark Elementary teaching the 3rd grade. She was there for 16 years before she retired in 1993.

Dale and Karol divorced in 1993.

Karol did not slowdown in retirement, she became an avid traveler; she traveled across the world. In 2000 she was on one such trip with her friend they traveled to Yuma Arizona, it was there on a dance floor she met Edward Sapala from Surrey-Vancouver British Columbia, Canada. From that meeting the two were inseparable, traveling and enjoying each other’s company for the remainder of her days.

Karol in her life enjoyed many activities some of which were quilting, traveling, dancing, doll making, porcelain ceramics, and cooking. But above everything else, she loved her children and even more her grandchildren. She always made sure each of them felt special. She also made a close connection with Ed’s Family and loved them as her own.

Karol was an amazing educator. She loved her students so much. She was so proud of all the accomplishments they achieved. Being an avid reader and teacher, she taught everyone that if you give a child a book and teach them to read that it would be the greatest foundation a child could ever have. She changed many children’s lives – she loved every child, no matter their circumstances or ability, she found ways to love each one of them.

Karol is preceded in death by her parents James Wilford and Georgia Shiner, her brother Chuck Shiner, a grandson Michael, and a granddaughter Shantell. She is survived by her partner Edward Sapala, sister-in-law Beverly Shiner, daughter Dale Christine (Ron)Endo, her son Kelly William (Terry) Fayle, and by the greatest group of grandchildren and great-grandchildren the world has ever seen.

No services have been planned at this time, but the family will be planning a “Celebration of Life” at a later date and time.
