Carl Esser

Ernest “Carl” Esser, 71, of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away on January 11, 2024, at his home under the care of Enhabit Hospice. Carl passed away after battling many years of health complications.

Carl was born to Ernest Esser and Wanda Fisher on April 20, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri, where he grew up.

Carl later married Virginia (Stamburger) Esser and had a son Carl Robert Esser on April 20, 1969. Father and son uniquely shared the same birthday. Carl and Virginia later divorced.

Carl moved to Idaho in 1971 where he met and married Janice (Struhs) Esser having 3 daughters, Chantelle, Rebekah, and Alicia. They later divorced.

On October 19, 2013, Carl married the love of his life Paulette (Powell) Esser where he acquired a stepson, Eric Livermore.

Carl was an avid musician who loved playing the guitar and singing, especially for his friends and family. His talent brought great joy to everyone, and he took every opportunity to share his talent with others. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge for many years where he played music and made many lasting friendships. Carl also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, scenic road trips, and going back home to Missouri to see family. He loved watching football and supporting his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, and everyone who knew him knew he enjoyed engaging in the friendly banter that came along with it. Carl had a great sense of humor and loved playing jokes just to bring a smile to your face. He was always a kid at heart.

Carl was happiest surrounded by his family and loved them with his whole heart, especially his children, he always made sure they were taken care of and happy. He had an exceptionally special place in his heart for his grandchildren who he loved to spoil whenever he got the chance.

He is survived by his wife, Paulette Esser; children: Rebekah Esser, Alicia (Kyle) Cathey, Gerald (Rita) Bradley; stepson, Eric (Bobbie) Livermore; grandsons: Dallas Johnson, Tyler Bradley, Dwaine (Alexis) Loveday, and Dakota Livermore; granddaughters: Elizabeth Darling, Emma Cathey, and Raven Loveday; and great-grandchildren: Aniyah, Malakai, Darrion, and Oakley; sisters: Louwanna Bloom and Kailonie Elliot; and brother, Jerry Cates.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest Esser and Wanda Fisher; brother, Earl Cates; sister, Rachel Esser; daughter, Chantelle Esser; and son, Robert Esser.

A celebration of life will be held from 1-3:00 p.m., January 19, 2024, at the Eagles Lodge, 635 Hemmert Ave, Idaho Falls. Cremation is under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls.
